other amenities• The eight-building campus of the Curley School offers ample space for additional amenities beyond the live/work apartments of its residents. For instance, the stately former library will serve as a public meeting room; the lofty, maple-floored auditorium will be the venue for art exhibitions and conferences; and the raised indoor-outdoor stage will host concerts, live theater and dance performances. We will also offer the followining:
• The elegant former cafeteria building will be reconfigured to house a retail art gallery and shop opening onto Esperanza Avenue. The rear of the building will house ISDA's Administrative offices. • Two large classrooms are already in use for art workshops, basket-weaving classes and an after-school arts program for local youth. These rooms will be available should resident artists want to teach a class or offer courses in their own field of expertise. computer lab & learning center • Thanks to a generous grant from the Arizona Community Foundation, we have recently opened a multi-generational computer lab featuring some of the finest computer equipment available. The 10-station lab features Dell Optiplex computers which are all internet accessible, connected through a hi-speed DSL line. • Training is available on Windows, internet skills and such software programs as Microsoft Word©, Excel© and Publisher©. Future plans include offering workshops on webpage design and e-commerce development. • Recognizing that artists and artisans often have difficulty marketing themselves and their work, we are opening an enterprise center in the former cafeteria on the Curley School campus to support and assist their efforts. Seen as a necessary adjunct to the Curley School Artisan live/work apartments, the enterprise center will foster the growth of local arts-oriented businesses, whether start-ups or pre-existing enterprises. • Membership in the center will make available low-cost job-appropriate training, one-on-one consulting, shipping and receiving facilities, and the use of pooled equipment such as copier, scanner, laser printer, high-quality photo printing, poster/banner printing, and computer lab. Some of these services are already in place. • By 2007 we will be offering workshops and individual assistance on topics such as business plans, finances, product development and marketing. Depending upon demand, a cooperative marketing/selling program is another possibility for the future. • As construction on the school proceeds, we intend to add physical workshops and unusual manufacturing/fabricating areas that will be available to both tenant and non-tenant members. • We have the flexibility to tailor our campus to the needs of our resident community so that creative entrepreneurs have access to not only conference rooms, exhibition space and a retail gallery/shop, but, for a small rental fee, a commercial kitchen and a woodwork/metal shop. We desire to know the needs of our future resident community and are actively soliciting input through the short survey below. You are invited to get in on the ground floor of our planning the facilities at the Curley School to meet the needs of our artists and artisans of the future. business needs survey• In conjunction with the Curley School project, we are developing an enterprise center. Sometimes known as a "business incubator," an enterprise center typically offers business services, the use of equipment, training, counseling and rental space at reduced cost to members. The services and equipment can be tailored to meet the needs of participants and would be available to both tenant and non-tenant members. To help us determine the type of equipment, space and services that would be most helpful to you, please click here to complete the survey. |
