Smithsonian’s Spark! Places of Innovation
November 8 - December 20, 2025
Wed/Thurs/Fri from 10-2pm & Saturdays from 2-6pm
We’re thrilled to announce that from November 8 - December 20, 2025, the Curley School Creative Campus will host the Smithsonian’s Spark! Places of Innovation traveling exhibit.
This nationally touring show celebrates how communities use creativity—technical, social, artistic, and cultural—to shape their futures. In Ajo, the exhibit will spotlight the Sonoran Desert Biosphere Region, where Indigenous, Anglo, and Mexican traditions converge to inspire a vibrant cultural destination.




9th Tri-National Sonoran Desert Symposium
March 9–12, 2026
Curley School / ISDA Campus + surrounding venues
This cross-border gathering brings together leaders from the Tohono O’odham Nation, Mexico, and the United States to explore the Sonoran Desert’s ecological and cultural heritage. Hosted on the Curley School Creative Campus, the symposium fosters exchange between science, Indigenous knowledge, and community practice.
In Ajo, the event highlights how collaboration across borders can shape the future of a shared desert region. Through presentations, dialogue, and field experiences, participants will examine innovations in conservation, cultural stewardship, and community resilience.
